Green City

GreenCity

Henrico County, VA

GreenCity is imagined as an ‘eco-district’ – designed to support companies, retailers, operators, and residents who are committed to climate action. Its planned synergies are designed for a generation who prefer better balanced and healthier lifestyles, providing ways in which all can contribute to a more sustainable future.

The planned urban + nature environment will foster opportunities for new economic development for greener industries and businesses who have, themselves, pledged to meet high sustainability goals in energy, water, and waste, as well as commitments to diverse social equity. The GreenCity master plan proposes building within a landscape-focused model which is itself the central theme.

The regulatory guidelines related to protecting the streambeds and wetlands that constitute the region’s Chesapeake Bay watershed are not just preserved here but embraced as assets. GreenCity will utilize these natural features as organizing elements for the plan and create a variety of active open public spaces and programs around the natural environment that is preserved.

Best Products

One of the sites’ existing structures, the former headquarters for Best Products will be reinvented as the largest commercial Living Building Challenge to date. Registered with the International Living Future Institute in 2021 and expected to be completed in 2024, the project will produce 105% of its own energy needs, capture all its own domestic water requirement, and treat its own waste.
